Counseling Fees & Insurance

Understanding the Practical Side of Counseling

Choosing a therapist is an important decision, and understanding the cost of care shouldn’t be confusing.

We believe you should have clear information about fees, insurance, and payment before beginning counseling so you can make the decision that’s right for you.

If you have questions about any of the information below, we’re happy to help.

Counseling Fees

Our current fee for individual counseling is:

$[XX] per 50-minute session

Longer sessions may be available when clinically appropriate.

Initial Consultation

We offer a free 15-minute consultation for prospective clients.

This brief conversation gives us an opportunity to learn a little about what you’re looking for, answer your questions, and determine whether Laurel Tree Counseling may be a good fit.

There is no obligation to schedule ongoing counseling after the consultation.

Insurance

Laurel Tree Counseling [accepts the following insurance plans / is an out-of-network provider and does not bill insurance directly]:

  • Blue Cross Blue Shield
  • Blue Care Network
  • Aetna
  • United Health Care
  • Cigna
  • Out of Network
  • Priority Health
  • Private Pay

Insurance plans and benefits can vary significantly, even within the same insurance company.

We recommend contacting your insurance provider before beginning therapy to confirm your specific mental health benefits.

Questions to Ask Your Insurance Company

If you’re planning to use insurance, you may want to ask:

  • Do I have outpatient mental health benefits?
  • Is my therapist considered in-network?
  • What is my copay or coinsurance?
  • Do I have a deductible?
  • How much of my deductible have I met?
  • Is there a limit on the number of covered sessions?
  • Do I have out-of-network benefits?
  • Do I need prior authorization?
  • What is my plan’s procedure for submitting out-of-network claims?

You can also ask your insurance company about the specific billing or procedure codes your plan requires.

Your insurance company can provide the most accurate information about your individual benefits.

Out-of-Network Benefits & Superbills

If you have out-of-network mental health benefits, you may be able to receive reimbursement for a portion of your counseling expenses.

When applicable, we can provide a superbill containing the information you need to submit a claim to your insurance company.

Reimbursement is determined by your insurance plan, not by Laurel Tree Counseling.

Before beginning care, we encourage you to contact your insurance provider to understand your out-of-network benefits and reimbursement policies.

Payment

Payment is due [at the time of service / according to your practice policy].

We accept:

  • [Credit/debit cards]
  • [HSA/FSA cards]
  • [Other payment methods]

A payment method may be kept securely on file according to our practice policies.

Cancellation & Rescheduling

We understand that life happens.

If you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment, please provide at least [XX hours] notice.

Appointments cancelled or missed with less than the required notice may be subject to a $[XX] late cancellation/no-show fee.

Because insurance typically does not cover missed appointments or late cancellation fees, these charges are generally the client’s responsibility.

Please see your intake paperwork or contact us for complete details regarding our cancellation policy.

Investing in Your Well-Being

We understand that therapy is an investment—financially, emotionally, and personally.

Our goal isn’t simply to provide you with a place to talk.

It’s to create a therapeutic relationship where you can develop insight, learn practical skills, process difficult experiences, and work toward changes that matter to you.

If you’re unsure whether counseling is financially feasible, we encourage you to reach out.

We can explain your options and help you understand the costs before you commit to ongoing care.

Have Questions?

You don’t have to figure out insurance or fees on your own.

If you’re unsure about your benefits, wondering whether we accept your insurance, or simply want to understand what getting started would look like, contact us.

We’re happy to answer your questions.
