A Holistic Approach to Mental Health Counseling
Our Approach
Therapy That Sees the Whole You
You are more than a diagnosis, a symptom, or a problem to be solved.
At Laurel Tree Counseling, we believe meaningful healing begins by understanding the whole person. Your mental health is influenced by your experiences, relationships, physical health, habits, environment, and the way you connect with yourself.
Our approach brings together evidence-based counseling and holistic principles to create care that is personalized, compassionate, and grounded in your individual goals.
Because there is no one-size-fits-all approach to healing.

Our Holistic Approach
Holistic counseling doesn’t mean choosing between traditional therapy and other approaches.
It means recognizing that your emotional, mental, physical, and behavioral well-being are connected.
For some people, that may mean exploring patterns of thinking and behavior. For others, it may mean learning how to regulate the nervous system, improve mindfulness, process difficult experiences, develop healthier relationships, or understand how lifestyle and physical health affect emotional well-being.
We consider the different pieces of your life while staying focused on what matters most: helping you feel better and move toward the life you want.
Evidence-Based. Individualized. Human.
Our therapists draw from a variety of therapeutic approaches rather than forcing every client into the same model.
Depending on your needs and goals, your care may incorporate:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
CBT can help you recognize the connection between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors and develop healthier ways of responding to difficult situations.
Motivational Interviewing
When you know you want something to change but feel stuck, conflicted, or unsure where to begin, motivational interviewing can help you explore your own reasons for change and build confidence in moving forward.
Person-Centered Therapy
You are the expert on your own life. We create a supportive, nonjudgmental environment where you can explore your experiences at your own pace.
Solution-Focused Therapy
Rather than focusing exclusively on what’s wrong, solution-focused work helps identify strengths, possibilities, and practical steps toward the future you want.
Mindfulness
Mindfulness can help you become more aware of your thoughts, emotions, physical sensations, and patterns without automatically reacting to them.
Somatic Approaches
Because emotional experiences can be felt in the body, somatic techniques may help you develop greater awareness of physical sensations and learn skills for feeling more grounded and regulated.
Your therapist will work with you to determine which approaches make sense for your unique situation.
We Start Where You Are
You don’t need to arrive at your first session with everything figured out.
You don’t need to know exactly what’s wrong.
And you certainly don’t need to have a five-year plan for your mental health.
Maybe you know exactly what brought you to therapy.
Maybe you simply know that something doesn’t feel right.
Either is okay.
Our role isn’t to tell you who you should be. It’s to listen, help you understand yourself more deeply, and work alongside you as you identify what you want your life to look and feel like.
Your Goals Guide the Work
Therapy can mean different things to different people.
You may want to:
- Feel less anxious or overwhelmed
- Better understand your emotions
- Improve your relationships
- Develop healthier boundaries
- Work through past experiences
- Build self-confidence
- Change patterns that no longer serve you
- Develop a healthier relationship with food or your body
- Navigate a major life transition
- Cope with chronic health challenges
- Prepare emotionally for bariatric surgery
- Adjust to life after surgery
- Feel more connected to yourself
- Simply feel more like yourself again
Whatever brings you here, we’ll work together to identify realistic goals and meaningful steps forward.
Mind, Body & Behavior
Mental health doesn’t happen in a vacuum.
Sleep, nutrition, movement, stress, hormones, physical health, relationships, work, and daily routines can all interact with emotional well-being.
Our multidisciplinary team allows us to consider these connections when appropriate.
With counseling, psychology, and registered dietitian expertise within our practice, we can look at your well-being from multiple perspectives while keeping your individual goals at the center of care.
Whole-person care doesn’t mean doing everything at once.
It means understanding the whole picture.
A Collaborative Relationship
We believe therapy works best when it feels like a partnership.
Your therapist brings professional knowledge, experience, and therapeutic tools.
You bring your lived experience, values, strengths, and understanding of your own life.
Together, we create a plan.
We won’t tell you what your journey should look like. We’ll help you explore what matters to you, understand what’s getting in the way, and identify the changes that feel meaningful and achievable.
You Don't Have to Do This Alone
Starting therapy can feel vulnerable.
You may be nervous about opening up to someone new. You may wonder whether therapy will actually help. You may have tried counseling before and had an experience that didn’t feel right.
Those concerns are understandable.
Our goal is to create a space where you can be honest, heard, respected, and supported—without judgment.
You don’t have to know exactly where you’re going.
You just have to be willing to take the first step.
